2018 point guard Tre Wood commits to Massachusetts

Grant LabedzBy Grant LabedzOctober 7, 2017No Comments2 Mins Read

Matt McCall and Massachusetts got their 2nd commitment from the class of 2018; Tre Wood hopped on board on Friday night. The Washington, D.C. native was down to George Mason and the Minutemen before deciding on the latter. He joins Samba Diallo as Matt McCall’s incoming freshmen during the 2018-19 season.

Wood is a 3 star guard according to 247 Sports; he stands at 6-0 and weighs in at 165 pounds. According to Scout’s Composite rankings, he’s the 5th best player from the class of 2018 in the D.C. area. Wood drew a lot of national attention, accumulating 12 offers including those from Big Ten schools Iowa and Penn St.

First, I’d like to thank my Mom, Dad, family, friends and coaches for believing in me. I am honored to announce my commitment to: pic.twitter.com/bTkz9AlGoP

Wood’s commitment to the Minutemen gives Matt McCall a reliable option at point when C.J. Anderson and Jaylen Brantley are gone. While Memphis transfer Keon Clergeot will be in the mix as well, McCall now has a freshman point guard in 2018-19 who he can center his program around.

Matt McCall has been very successful bringing in not just recruits, but transfers to reload. The Minutemen have 2 incoming freshmen and 4 redshirt transfers who will see the court for the first time in 2018-19. Not to mention, they’ll have then senior Rashaan Holloway who could be the favorite for A-10 Player of the Year in 2018-19. There’s a serious chance Massachusetts makes the NCAA Tournament in just two seasons.
