Jacob Gilyard, a 3-star point guard out of Kansas City, Missouri, verbally committed to the Richmond Spiders on Monday. Despite receiving many other offers, the 5’10” guard chose Richmond, giving the Spiders a nice start on their 2017 recruiting class. Gilyard says he, “fell in love with Richmond and everything about it.” Before joining the Spiders, Gilyard will finish up his senior year of high school at The Barstow School.

As a great shooter, passer, and ball handler, Gilyard will certainly earn a chance to shine at Richmond. Gilyard told me, “with Dre (ShawnDre’ Jones) leaving, its definitely opens up doors for me to come in and have a chance to play! I’m just eager to get down there and do everything I can to win as a Spider.” Watch out for Gilyard to become one of the next great guards at Richmond and make big things happen in the Atlantic 10. Combine his deep range from three with a motivated mentality, and Gilyard could become a very special player for the Spiders.
