When 2017 point guard Trent Frazier narrowed his list down to 8 schools on Sunday, two A-10 schools found themselves still in the mix. The 4 star recruit included VCU and Rhode Island on his list as well as Georgia, Seton Hall, Memphis, SMU, Illinois, and Kansas State. Frazier is a 6’2″ guard who weighs 170 pounds and plays high school ball at Wellington High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. Duquesne was also in the mix until Frazier cut his options down to the final 8 schools listed above.

Trent is one of those point guards who can do just about everything when he’s on the floor. He’s one of the quickest players in all of high school, and he has a knack for getting to the hoop. Add in a solid jumpshot and the ability to pass at the high level, and there’s no question Frazier will be a very talented point guard in college. 247 Sports ranks Frazier as the 107th best player in the class of 2017 and the 20th best player in Florida. But given the interest that schools have had and the sheer talent this kid possesses, he could be very underrated.
According to 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball Prediction, Illinois is currently leading the way in the recruitment of Frazier, most likely because that’s where his first visit will be. The 2017 recruit will be visiting Champaign at the end of August but will likely make his way over to VCU and Rhode Island sometime during the 2016-17 season. VCU would be a great destination for Frazier, as the Rams will be in need of a solid point guard beginning next season. JeQuan Lewis will have graduated, and Jonathan Williams will be a senior, opening up a lot of playing time in the following years for the young point guard.
Rhode Island would be another good spot for Frazier. Jarvis Garrett will be a senior in the 2017-18 season, and once he’s gone, there isn’t anyone left to play point guard in Kingston. Both VCU and Rhode Island are likely to have solid years in the A-10 this season, and it’d be interesting to see if their success (or lack thereof) could influence Frazier’s decision at all. Either way, the fact that both of these schools has made the Top 8 is great for the conference and excellent for both programs.
