Each week, Hoop Ten Harbor’s staff ranks each team in the Atlantic 10 conference (1-14) based on where they believe each team places overall. Each team’s ranking is averaged, and Hoop Ten Harbor creates a compiled ranking to represent the site. Here’s this week’s power rankings.
1. Dayton Flyers
Dayton retains the top spot this week after winning both of the games it played. The Flyers squeaked out an overtime win against Arkansas and got a very solid road victory over Duquesne to open up conference play. This week, Dayton will have a home matchup against Massachusetts and one on the road against the La Salle Explorers.
2. George Washington Colonials
The Colonials come in as the number 2 team in the power rankings after winning twice this past week. They topped UCF on the road and opened up conference play with a home win over Fordham. This week, George Washington goes on the road to face Saint Louis and returns home for a battle with Duquesne.
3. St. Joseph’s Hawks
The Hawks move up to the 3 spot after taking down Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday and then grabbing a huge road win over Richmond. The Hawks are now 11-2 on the season. They’ll play two home games this week: one against VCU and the other against Rhode Island.
4. VCU Rams
The Rams have been turning things around as of late as they’ve now won their last four games. They took down North Florida and George Mason pretty harmlessly this past week. However, this next week will be anything but easy for VCU. The Rams will travel to take on St. Joseph’s and Saint Louis on the road.
5. St. Bonaventure Bonnies
The Bonnies had a very impressive week as they were able to take down Niagara and Davidson to improve to 9-3 on the season. They put up 97 points against the Wildcats in their conference opener. This week, St. Bonaventure will face George Mason and Massachusetts, both cames coming on the road.
6. Richmond Spiders
Despite losing its conference opener at home to St. Joseph’s and falling to 8-5 on the season, the Spiders still come in at the 6 spot. They also lost earlier in the week to a very good Texas Tech team. Richmond will look to snap a two-game losing streak this week when it has road games against both Rhode Island and Fordham.
7. Davidson Wildcats
The Wildcats had a tough week after losing both of their games. They got blown out earlier in the week by California and then lost their conference opener on the road to St. Bonaventure. This week, Davidson will take on Duquesne and George Mason, both at home, in hopes of turning things around in a hurry.
8. Rhode Island Rams
The Rams had a nice week as they managed to pick up two victories to improve to 9-5 on the season. They took down Brown in overtime on Wednesday and crushed Saint Louis in their conference opener. This week, the Rams will host the Richmond Spiders before going on the road to take on St. Joseph’s.
9. UMass Minutemen (Tie)
The Minutemen tie for the 9th spot this week after winning two games and improving to 9-5 overall. They took down Long Island and then won their conference opener at La Salle. This week, they’ll get a tough road matchup against Dayton and follow that up with the Bonnies at home.
9. Fordham Rams (Tie)
The Rams only played one game this week after a long time away from the court. They fought hard with George Washington but ended up losing their conference opener on the road. This week, Fordham faces off with Richmond and La Salle, both matchups coming at home for the Rams.
11. Duquesne Dukes
Duquesne drops to the 11 spot this week after two losses move its overall record to 10-4. The Dukes lost a battle on the road with Georgia Tech and followed that up with a home loss to Dayton in their conference opener. They’ll go on the road in a very tough week where they’ll have to face Davidson and George Washington.
12. La Salle Explorers
La Salle takes the 12 spot this week after losing twice. The Explorers fell on the road to Florida Gulf Coast and lost their conference opener at home to Massachusetts. They’ve now lost their last 6 games. This week won’t get any easier when they play Fordham on the road and then Dayton at home.
13. George Mason Patriots (Tie)
The Patriots tie for the bottom spot after getting blown out at VCU this past week. The Patriots snapped a two game winning streak and drop to 6-8 on the season. This week they’ll play St. Bonaventure at home and go on the road to take on Davidson.
14. Saint Louis Billikens (Tie)
The Billikens tie for the last spot after losing to both Kansas State and Rhode Island this past week. Saint Louis has now lost 8 of its last 9. This week, the Billikens will have two tough home matchups when they face George Washington and VCU.
