Atlantic 10 Weekly Power Rankings: VCU unanimously in the top spot

Each week, Hoop Ten Harbor’s staff ranks each team in the Atlantic 10 conference (1-14) based on where they believe each team places overall. Each team’s ranking is averaged, and Hoop Ten Harbor creates a compiled ranking to represent the site. 9 different contributors vote in each week’s rankings. Here are this week’s power rankings.

1. VCU Rams (Avg: 1.00)

The Rams stay in first place this week after they took down Duquesne and St. Bonaventure. They have now won 10 straight games and are trying to take firm control of the conference race. This week, they’ll go on the road to face Davidson on Friday. It will be the only game for the Rams.

2. Dayton Flyers (Avg: 2.00)

The Flyers stay in the two spot this week as they won both games they played. The Flyers took down St. Bonaventure and Fordham, both games coming on the road. Dayton has one of the easiest weeks ahead as it will return home for two games. The Flyers will face off with Saint Louis on Wednesday and La Salle on Saturday.

3. George Washington Colonials (Avg: 3.38)

George Washington stays in the 3 spot this week after it won the only game it played. The Colonials were able to get a comeback victory at home against Rhode Island. After almost a week off, they’ll get back into action on Thursday at home against Richmond. Then, they’ll go on the road to face George Mason on Sunday.

4. St. Joseph’s Hawks (Avg: 3.63)

St. Joseph’s remains in the four spot this week, but it’s beginning to inch closer and closer to George Washington. The Hawks had a nice week, taking down rivals Penn and La Salle on the road. They’ll return home to face Massachusetts on Wednesday before going on the road to play Rhode Island on Saturday.

5. St. Bonaventure (Avg: 5.00)

The Bonnies stay in the 5 spot this week even though they were unable to win either of the games they played. St. Bonaventure had tough matchups: at home against Dayton and on the road against VCU. Things won’t get much easier this week when the Bonnies face Richmond at home on Sunday.

6. Rhode Island Rams (Avg: 6.25)

The Rams remain in the 6 spot this week despite losing the only game they played. Rhode Island gave up a lead and was unable to finish on the road against George Washington. This week, the Rams will try to rebound when they host Fordham on Wednesday and then have a really good contest against St. Joseph’s on Saturday.

7. Richmond Spiders (Avg: 6.88)

The Spiders move into the 7 spot this week despite having the whole week off. Richmond stands at 2-3 in conference play and will be looking to make some moves this week. The Spiders will have a couple of tough matchups when they host Davidson on Monday and then go on the road against George Washington on Thursday.

8. Davidson Wildcats (Avg: 7.88)

Davidson falls into the 8 spot this week after it was unable to take down Saint Louis on the road. The Wildcats stand at 3-3 in the conference and certainly have to be kicking themselves after that one. Regardless, they’ll try to bounce back when they Richmond on the road on Monday and VCU at home on Friday.

9. Duquesne Dukes (Avg: 9.13)

The Dukes stay in the 9 spot after going 1-1 this past week. They lost to VCU on the road but were able to grab a nice victory away from home against George Mason. They’ll have the chance to keep the ball rolling this week when they face off against La Salle at home on Tuesday and Saint Louis on the road on Saturday.

10. Fordham Rams (Avg: 10.00)

The Rams drop stay in the 10 spot this week as they managed to win 1 of the 2 games they played. The Rams won against George Mason but then loss to Dayton, both games coming at home. They’ll go back on the road this week as they take on Rhode Island on Wednesday and Massachusetts on Saturday.

11. UMass Minutemen (Avg: 11.38)

The Minutemen stay in the 11 spot this week after losing the only game it played. They failed to get a home win against Saint Louis on Saturday. Massachusetts will try to redeem itself this week when it faces off against St. Joseph’s on the road on Wednesday and Fordham at home on Saturday.

12. Saint Louis Billikens (Avg: 11.50)

The Billikens move up into the 12 spot this week after winning both games they played. Saint Louis took down Davidson at home and Massachusetts on the road to move to 3-4 in the conference. They’ll play on the road against Dayton on Wednesday and return home to host Duquesne on Saturday.

13. La Salle Explorers (Avg: 13.13)

The Explorers fall back into the 13 spot this week after going 0-2. La Salle lost games to Temple and St. Joseph’s this past week to fall back to 1-5 in the conference. This week, the Explorers will face off against Duquesne on Tuesday and Dayton on Saturday, both games coming on the road.

14. George Mason Patriots (Avg: 13.88)

The Patriots stay in the 14 spot this week, unable to win either game it played. They lost on the road to Fordham and at home to Duquesne to fall back to 1-6 in the conference. They’ll only play one game this week: a home contest against George Washington where they’ll look to pick up their second conference win.
