A10 Weekly Power Rankings: Despite loss, Dayton retains top spot

Each week, Hoop Ten Harbor’s staff ranks each team in the Atlantic 10 conference (1-14) based on where they believe each team places overall. Each team’s ranking is averaged, and Hoop Ten Harbor creates a compiled ranking to represent the site. Here’s this week’s power rankings.

1. Dayton Flyers (Avg: 1.2)

The Flyers stay ranked at the top despite dropping a bad loss to La Salle on Saturday. Dayton is 2-1 in the conference after losing to the Explorers but also taking down Massachusetts earlier in the week. The Flyers will have two home games this week: One against Davidson on Tuesday, and then what’ll be the game of the week against George Washington on Friday.

2. George Washington Colonials (Avg: 2.3)

The Colonials stay in the number 2 spot this week despite, just like Dayton, dropping a bad loss. The Colonials lost to Saint Louis on Wednesday but were able to rebound with a crushing victory over Duquesne on Saturday. This week, George Washington will play Massachusetts on the road on Tuesday and Dayton on the road on Friday.

3. St. Joseph’s Hawks (Avg: 3.3)

The Hawks stay in the three spot this week after going 1-1. They lost a tight one with VCU on Tuesday but were able to rebound with a win over Rhode Island on Saturday. St. Joseph’s is 2-1 in conference play. This week, the Hawks will travel to take on George Mason on Wednesday and then return home to face Fordham on Saturday.

4. VCU Rams (Avg: 4.3)

The Rams retain the 4 spot this week after two very solid road wins. VCU now stands at 3-0 in the conference after beating St. Joseph’s and Saint Louis this past week. The Rams will certainly have their hands full when they host Fordham on Wednesday and then go on the road to play the Richmond Spiders on Saturday.

5. St. Bonaventure (Avg: 5.0)

The Bonnies keep the 5 spot after another very good week in the conference. They took down George Mason and Massachusetts, both games on the road. They’re 3-0 in conference play. They’ll have a tough home matchup against Rhode Island on Wednesday, and then they’ll have to go on the road to face Duquesne on Saturday.

6. Richmond Spiders (Avg: 6.3)

The Spiders keep the 6 spot in the rankings this week after they finally picked up their first conference win. They lost to Rhode Island on Tuesday but snapped a three game losing streak on the road against Fordham on Saturday. This week they’ll play two home games: one against La Salle on Wednesday and the other against VCU on Saturday.

7. Rhode Island Rams (Avg: 7.3)

Rhode Island moves up into the 7 spot this week after going 1-1. The Rams took down Richmond on Tuesday but lost on the road to St. Joseph’s on Sunday. They’re 2-1 in the conference. This week, they’ll go on the road to take on a very tough St. Bonaventure team on Wednesday. Then they’ll come back home to take on La Salle on Saturday.

7. Davidson Wildcats (Avg: 7.3)

The Wildcats tie the Rams for the 7 spot after winning both of their games this week. Davidson took down Duquesne and George Mason in order to move to 2-1 in conference play. This week, the Wildcats will play at Dayton this coming Tuesday, and then they’ll return home to play Massachusetts on Saturday.

9. Fordham Rams (Avg: 9.3)

The Rams stay in the 9 spot this week after they were able to win 1 of 2 games. Fordham took down La Salle at home on Wednesday but then fell at home to Richmond on Sunday. The Rams are 2-1 in conference play. This week, they’ll take on VCU on Wednesday and St. Joseph’s on Saturday, both games coming on the road.

10. Massachusetts Minutemen (Avg: 9.5)

The Minutemen fall back into the 10 spot this week after going 0-2. They lost to Dayton on Wednesday and St. Bonaventure on Saturday, and they now find themselves 1-2 in the conference. They’ll have a very tough schedule this week when they host George Washington on Tuesday and travel to play Davidson on Saturday.

11. Duquesne Dukes (Avg: 10.3)

The Dukes remain in the 11 spot this week after losing both games they played. Duquesne had two road contests this week, Davidson on Wednesday and George Washington on Saturday, and they lost both to move to 0-3 in conference play. This week, they’ll return home to face Saint Louis on Wednesday and St. Bonaventure on Saturday.

12. La Salle Explorers (Avg: 12.0)

The Explorers remain in the 12 spot after going 1-1 on the week. They lost on the road to Fordham on Wednesday but were able to get their biggest win of the season against Dayton on Saturday. They now sit at 1-2 in conference play. This week, they’ll go on the road to take on Richmond on Wednesday and Rhode Island on Saturday.

13. Saint Louis Billikens (Avg: 13.2)

The Billikens move up into the 13 spot this week after going 1-1 with a huge victory. They were able to take down George Washington on Wednesday but fell short to VCU on Sunday. They stand at 1-2 in conference play. This week, they’ll travel to take on Duquesne on Wednesday and then return home to host George Mason on Sunday.

14. George Mason (Avg: 13.5)

The Patriots find themselves slipping into the last spot this week after losing both games and falling to 0-3 in conference play. They played St. Bonaventure on Wednesday and Davidson on Saturday, losing both games. This week, they’ll try to rebound when they face St. Joseph’s at home on Wednesday and Saint Louis on the road on Sunday.
