The Loyola Chicago Ramblers (21-10, 12-6 Atlantic 10) defeated the Massachusetts Minutemen (12-19, 7-11 Atlantic 10) 74-51 on Saturday afternoon. UMass dropped their final two games in the regular season in their final season in the Atlantic 10.
It looked like early on that the Minutemen were going to keep the game close with the Ramblers and got off to an early lead. That lead was short-lived, as Loyola Chicago saw shots go in and take the lead from UMass. The Ramblers capitalized on taking the lead by expanding it to the point where it was out of reach for the Minutemen.
UMass had two players in double-figure scoring on Saturday afternoon. Daniel Hankins-Sanford had career-highs with 22 points and 15 rebounds, and Jaylen Curry had 11 points to round out double-digit scorers. Rahsool Diggins had 9 points, Nate Guerengomba had 3 points, and Jayden Ndjigue, Luka Damjanac, and Shahid Muhammad each had 2 points to round out scorers for the Minutemen.
Loyola Chicago had three players in double-figure scoring on Saturday afternoon. Jayden Dawson had 17 points, Des Watson had 14 points, and Sheldon Edwards had 12 points to round out scorers in double-digits. Mile Rubins had 9 points and 8 rebounds, Jalen DeLoach had 8 points, Francis Nwaokorie had 6 points, Kymany Houinsou had 4 points with a double-double of 10 rebounds and 10 assists, and Jalen Quinn and Daniil Glazkov each had 2 points to round out scorers for the Ramblers.
Up next for both teams is the Atlantic 10 Tournament down in Washington DC. UMass will be the 11-seed and playing the 14-seed in the La Salle Explorers on Wednesday, March 12th. Loyola Chicago goes in with a double-bye and will not play until Friday, March 14th.
