The Hawks Fly Out of Amherst with a Win to Extend Their Win Streak to Two Games

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks defeated the Massachusetts Minutewomen on Saturday afternoon 67-55 in the Mullins Center.

At the start of the game, both teams seemed ready to keep this close battle, especially UMass, which had a one-point advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Minutewomen struggled to keep Laura Ziegler and Gabby Casey from making big threes from behind the ark down key stretches the game that let the Hawks a lead build up on that and eventually go on to win. What hurt UMass down the stretch was that they were going on long-scoring droughts and letting Saint Joseph’s hit whatever shot they wanted as well as not finding the shooter who can make those baskets in those key stretches as well.

The Hawks had four players in double-figure scoring on Saturday afternoon. Laura Siegler led the way with 23 points and 14 rebounds, Gabby Casey had 12 points, and Rihanna Stokes and Mackenzie Smith each had 11 points for scorers in double digits. Aleah Snead and Emma Boslet had 4 points and Talia Brugler had 2 points to round out all scores for St Joseph’s.

The Minutewomen had two players in double-figure scoring on Saturday afternoon. Megan Olbrys had 21 points Yahmani McKayle had 11 points for all scorers in double digits. Allie Palmieri had 9 points, Stefanie Kulesza had 8 points, Lilly Ferguson had 4 points, and Chinenye Odenigbo had 2 points for all scorers for UMass.

The Minutewomen hit the road to face the Rhode Island Rams on Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:35pm The Hawks return home to face the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Wednesday, January at 7pm.
