The Richmond Spiders (11-5, 2-1 Atlantic 10) defeated the Massachusetts Minutewomen (7-7, 2-1 Atlantic 10) 82-52 on Sunday afternoon. The Spiders have a 22-8 lead over the Minutewomen in the series history.

Richmond came out of the gates strong in the first quarter, which resulted in them getting a quick 29-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. In that first quarter the Spiders started out shooting 7-7 from behind the arc helping them build up that big lead, while UMass struggled to get shot to fall in the first half. Richmond had a 44-15 lead at the half, holding the Minutewomen to their lowest score at a half this season. UMass started to get the shooting going in the second half, but the deficit was too big at that point to be able to big themselves out of at that point. Richmond went on to make 17 three-pointers in the game, which is the most that the Spiders have made this season. The Minutewomen were not able to stop the hot shooting from behind the arc from the Spiders, which resulted in the Minutewomen facing their largest loss of the season, and their first in conference play.

Richmond had three players in double-figure scoring on Sunday afternoon. Rachel Ullstrom had 16 points and 4 rebounds, Maggie Doogan had 16 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds, and Addie Budnik had 10 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds for scorers in double-digits. Katie Hill had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals, Ally Sweeney and Faith Alston each had 7 points, Steph Ouderkirk had 6 points, Alyssa Jimenez had 5 points, Anna Camden had 3 points, and Sam Dewey and Payton Richard each had 2 points to round out all scorers for the Spiders.

UMass had two players in double-figure scoring on Sunday afternoon. Yahmani McKayle had 18 points and Allie Palmieri had 15 points for all scorers in double-digits. Megan Olbrys, Chinenye Odenigbo, Aleah Sorrentino each had 4 points, Kasey Bretones had 3 points, and Dallas Pierce had 2 points to round out all scorers for the Minutewomen.

Richmond returns home to the Robins Center to face the George Mason Patriots (12-2, 2-1 Atlantic 10) on Wednesday, January 8th at 6pm.

UMass hits the road to start a two-game road trip in UD Arena to face the Dayton Flyers (8-6, 2-1 Atlantic 10) on Wednesday, January 8th at 7pm.
