The Richmond Spiders (7-8, 2-0 Atlantic 10) defeated the Massachusetts Minutemen (5-10, 0-2 Atlantic 10) 72-64 on Saturday afternoon. The Spiders have an 18-9 series history lead over the Minutemen.
UMass started fast and furious out of the gates against Richmond with a quick twenty-to-seven run which caused a timeout to be called by the Spiders. After that timeout, the Minutemen were held to just eleven points for the remaining time in the first half, which let Richmond get a three-point lead. After halftime, the Spiders had most of the momentum, and UMass did get their scoring deficit down to three points, which forced a timeout by Richmond. The Spiders ended up extending their lead back out, and won their second game in conference play.
Richmond had four players in double-figure scoring on Saturday afternoon. DeLonnie Hunt had 16 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals, Dusan Neskovic had 15 points, Mike Walz had 11 points and 9 rebounds, and Colin Tanner had 10 points and 6 rebounds for all scorers in double-digits. Jason Roche had 6 points, Apostolos Roumoglou had 5 points and 4 rebounds, Mikkel Tyne had 4 points and 4 rebounds, B. Artis White had 3 points, and Jonathan Beagle had 2 points to round out all scorers for the Spiders.
UMass had four players in double-figure scoring on Saturday afternoon. Jaylen Curry led the way with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Rahsool Diggins had 16 points, Jayden Ndjigue had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block, and Daniel Rivera had 10 points and 6 rebounds for all double-digit scorers. Daniel Hankins-Sanford had 3 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks, Shahid Muhammad had 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 block, and Marqui Worthy and Nate Guerengomba had 2 points to round out all scorers for the Minutemen.
Richmond travels to EagleBank Arena in Fairfax to face the George Mason Patriots (10-5, 1-1 Atlantic 10) on Wednesday, January 8th at 7pm on ESPN+.
