Despite being down four to start the second half, The Davidson Wildcats found a second gear and used it to earn their first win of 2025 over Duquesne 77-71 at John M. Belk Arena on Saturday afternoon.

After trailing Duquesne 38-34 at halftime, Davidson began the second half by going on a 20-6 run in the first 6:55. Reed Bailey had 8 of his 26 points in the game during this run and he also hit a floater that stretched the lead to 10. Duquesne got the lead down to as close as two with 1:32 left thanks to a bucket from Jahsean Corbett, but Zach Laput closed it out with a step-back jumper 28 seconds later.

Corbett had a career-high in points with 29 points to lead Duquesne, but it was not enough. 17 of those 29 came in the second half of the game. Meanwhile, the Wildcats got more production offensively other than Bailey. Laput exceeded his 8 PPG average and scored 17 points for his squad in just his fourth start for the Cats this season.

This game was a game of runs, as both teams had double-digit leads at multiple points. Duquesne’s largest lead was 27-15 with 8:57 left in the first half. The home faithful waited until the second half to see their Wildcats take their largest lead of 11.

Davidson shot a game-best 51% from the field and made two more three-pointers than the Dukes with 9. The Wildcats also shot well from the free throw line, shooting 16-21.

Duquesne has continued their run of dominance on the offensive glass, outrebounding the Wildcats today 13 to 6.

Davidson will remain home to face Fordham next Saturday at 2 PM. Duquesne will have to flush this loss quickly, as they play host to a tough Saint Joseph’s team at home on Wednesday at 7 PM.
