Kenpom.com MVP: Lynn Kidd. The 6’10” Virginia Tech senior scored a game-high 20 points, shooting 9 of 10 from the field and a perfect 2 for 2 from the line. Lynn also led all rebounders with eight boards.
The difference. Defense. Richmond dictated early holding Tech to two points in the game’s first nine minutes. A good amount of full court pressure was employed, not to necessarily get steals but to keep the Tech offense off balance. The Spiders enjoyed a nine point first half lead before the hosts regrouped. Ten minutes to play in the contest, Richmond trailed by one. Tech then went on a 17-6 run that basically sealed the verdict. Jordan King, the A10’s Co-Player of the Year, was double teamed all night by Mike Young’s Hokies. King scored six points on 2 of 9 shooting from the floor. Team-wise, Richmond was held 14 below their 106 offensive efficiency average in conference play. Spiders also shot 38% from the field, their third lowest single game mark this season.
