The Loyola Chicago Ramblers (9-8, 3-3 A-10) defeated the Massachusetts Minutewomen (3-15, 1-5 A-10) 79-66 on Wednesday night. The Ramblers have now tied the all-time match history 1-1 with the Minutewomen.
This game started very back and forth with five different lead changes and eleven times the game was tied up. The Ramblers had a three-point lead by the end of the first quarter, but it was a two-point lead by the Minutewomen going into halftime. Loyola Chicago then came out of halftime swinging going on a 16-2 run for the last 6 minutes of the third quarter giving the Ramblers a twelve-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Minutewomen tried to come back, but it was not enough to overcome the lead that Loyola Chicago made. UMass also had Bre Bellamy and Chinenye Odenigbo both in foul trouble, which limited who was in for post players.
The Minutewomen had four different players score in double figures on Wednesday night. Stefanie Kulesza had 17 points, a career-high 8 steals, and 6 rebounds to lead the way for UMass. Kristin Williams had 15 points, and Lilly Taulelei and Alexsia Rose had 10 points to round out all UMass double-digit scorers. Rose had 7 assists to go with the 10 points. Tori Hyduke, Bellamy, and Odenigbo each had 4 points, and Lilly Ferguson had 2 points to round out all scorers for UMass.
The Ramblers had four different players in double figures on Wednesday night. Sam Galanopoulos led Loyola Chicago with 22 points and 7 rebounds, Alyssa Fisher had 17 points, Sitori Tanin had 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Sophia Nolan had 10 points to round out the Ramblers in double digits. Ali Berg had 9 points, Emma Nolan had 6 points, and Thoranna Kika Hodge-Carr had 4 points out of all scorers for Loyola Chicago.
Loyola Chicago travels back to Gentile Arena to face the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies (4-13, 1-5 A-10) on Saturday, January 20th at 2pm ET. This will be the second time that these two teams meet, and the Bonnies have a 1-0 lead over the Ramblers.
UMass will host the George Mason Patriots (13-3, 4-1 A-10) on Sunday at 4pm on CBSSN. This will be the 15th meeting between these two teams, and the Patriots have 9-5 lead over the Minutewomen in the all-time series history.
