A hot shooting second half was too much to overcome. St. Bonaventure fell to George Washington 78-62 in a women’s matchup on Sunday. The game at Bonaventure’s Reilly Center saw George Washington improve to 8-8 (1-3) while the Bonnies are now 4-12 (1-4).

Game was tied at 35 at the half. Second half the Revolutionaries came out firing on all cylinders. The visitors ‘won’ the first four minutes following intermission, 16-3, to open a 13 point lead. Bonnies cut the deficit to one possession late in the third period. George Washington’s Asjah Inniss then struck with two three pointers to push the lead back to nine (59-50) heading into the last stanza.
The final ten minutes saw the George Washington lead increase to as much as 19 points before closing out the first conference win for Caroline McCombs’ club.
Sophomore Nya Robertson, a 15.5 ppg scorer, scored a career high 31 points for the Revolutionaries. Nya Lok added 16 and Inniss 14. Bonnies were paced by Nadechka Laccen with 15. Dani Haskell and Isabellah Middleton also reached double digits for Jim Crowley’s group with 10 each.
Robertson shot five of five from long distance in the first six minutes of the contest as George Washington opened a 17-7 lead. The sophomore guard finished with a 5 of 12 (50%) performance from deep. For the game George Washington shot 42% from the floor. They actually were more proficient from three point range (14 of 27 for 52%) than inside the arc (12 of 35 for 34%). Bonnies shot 37% from the floor, going 7 of 25 (28%) from long range.
Turnover rates were almost even. The Bonnies made the most of the George Washington miscues with a 23-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
Bonnies led 22-20 in points in the paint while the visitors had a 17-8 edge in second chance points.
Essence Brown of George Washington was the game rebounding leader with nine. Bonnies were headed by Kirah Dandridge with eight. The sophomore guard added nine points in 26 minutes of action.
Despite the final score disparity, the game was tied five times and had four lead changes.
