The La Salle Explorers (6-10, 3-2 A-10) defeated the Massachusetts Minutewomen (3-14, 1-4 A-10) 70-64 on Saturday afternoon. The Explorers cut the lead to 22-15 in the all-time series matchup with the Minutewomen.
The game started with La Salle scoring the first points and leading through the first four minutes of the game. UMass then took over and held the lead through the first minute of the fourth quarter when the Explorers took over the lead, and never looked back on the Minutewomen. Neither team had a lead that was over double digits and kept each other close when each team had the lead.
The Minutewomen had three players in double-digits on Saturday afternoon. Bre Bellamy led UMass with 14 points and 9 rebounds, Stefanie Kulesza had 12 points and 9 rebounds, and Alexsia Rose had 12 points and 4 rebounds to round out all scorers in double figures for UMass. Kristin Williams had 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists, Tori Hyduke had 8 points and 3 assists, Lilly Taulelei had 4 points and 4 rebounds, Chinenye Odenigbo had 4 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, and Mikenzie Jones had 2 points round out scorers for the Minutewomen.
The Explorers had four players in double digits on Saturday afternoon. Gabby Turco led the way with 17 points, Nicole Melior had 14 points, Molly Masciantonio had 11 points, and Makayla Miller had 10 points to round out scorers in double figures for La Salle. Emilee Tahata and Tiara Bolden each had 6 points, Jolene Armendariz had 4 points, and Amber Bullard had 2 points to round out all scorers for the Explorers.
La Salle travels cross-town to Hagan Arena to face conference rival the Saint Joseph’s Hawks (15-2, 4-1 A-10) on Monday, January 15th at 12pm on CBSSN. This will be the 69th time that these two teams and the Hawks have a 52-16 lead over the Explorers.
UMass returns home to the Mullins Center to welcome the Loyola Chicago Ramblers (8-8, 2-3 A-10) on Wednesday, January 17th at 7pm. This will be the second time these two teams meet, and the Minutewomen have a 1-0 lead over the Ramblers.
