The Massachusetts Minutemen (6-2, 0-0 A-10) defeated former Atlantic 10 foe the West Virginia Mountaineers (4-6, 0-0 Big 12) 87-59 on Saturday night. The Mountaineers still lead the all-time series history 28-14.

From the start, UMass had the lead and all the momentum, until the second half where the Mountaineers had gained some momentum, but the Minutemen did get it back to end the game. UMass was led by Josh Cohen with 19 points, and Robert Davis Jr. had a career-high night of 18 points off of six made three-pointers. Rahsool Diggins had 15 points and Matt Cross had 13 points and 13 rebounds to round out all scorers in double digits for UMass. Daniel Hankins-Sanford and Keon Thompson both had 8 points, and Marqui Worthy, Jayden Ndjigue, and Jaylen Curry all had 2 points to round out all scorers for UMass.

New Faces in Amherst:

UMass announced Thursday afternoon that the Class of 2024 commit Tyler Mason has enrolled early at the university. Mason is a 6’10” Forward from Richmond, Virginia who played for Phheonix Prep. Mason has immediate eligibility for the Minutemen. Besides UMass, Mason had offers from Seton Hall, Radford, Wichita State, Xavier, Rutgers, and DePaul. Tyler arrived on campus Friday and will start practicing on Sunday.

Next up for the Minutemen:

UMass travels down to Honolulu, Hawaii for the Diamond Head Classic. The Minutemen’s first game in the MTE is against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-3, 1-0 ACC) on Thursday, December 21st at 9pm ET. UMass will match up against former Minuteman Tafara Gapare in this game. This will be the second time these two teams meet, and UMass leads the all-time series history 1-0.
