The Massachusetts Minutemen (4-2, 0-0 A-10) were not able to complete the comeback against the Towson Tigers (4-5, 0-0 CAA) on Wednesday night, and lost 81-71. The all-time series history between the Tigers and Minutemen is tied 2-2 after Wednesday’s game.
In the first half, the Minutemen struggled to score and shot 33% from the field and 50% from the free throw line. These numbers hurt UMass in the beginning, but in the second half, they shot 63% from the field and 79% from the free throw line. The comeback in the second half was impacted by not being able to defend off of ball screens.
The Minutemen had four players score in double figures. Keon Thompson led the way for UMass in scoring with 19 points all of which came in the second half and is a new career-high for Thompson. Matt Cross had 17 points, Robert Davis Jr. had a career-high 11 points, and Rahsool Diggins had 10 points to round out all scorers in double-digits. Josh Cohen had 8 points and Daniel Hankins-Sanford and Jaylen Curry both had 3 points apiece.
UMass will return to the Mullins Center and face off against the UMass Lowell Riverhawks (6-2, 0-0 America East) on Saturday, December 9th at 12pm. The Minutemen lead the all-time series history 9-3, and Saturday will mark the 13th matchup between these two programs.
