Minutewomen Earn a Blowout Win Against the Peacocks Going Into the Holiday Break

The UMass Minutewomen (9-3) came out and defeated the Saint Peter’s Peacocks (0-10) easily 81-34. Granted UMass started off a little sluggish, they came out of the first media with a fire lit that drove them to take the lead and never look back on the Peacocks.

After coming off of two tough losses to Missouri and Columbia in the past few weeks, having an eleven day break gave them enough time to recover and really scout out the Peacocks. Several players had break out in scoring for UMass. Sam Breen had 13 points and 9 rebounds, Sydney Taylor had 17 points and 5 rebounds, and Makennah White had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Breen, White, and Taylor scored a total of 45 points to the Peacocks 34 points in the entire game.

White is coming off of a foot injury and had not played in a game since the UMass Lowell game on November 22nd. White came out and tallied only her 3rd double double in her career in her first game back. Breen came close to tallying another double double in her career against the Peacocks while only playing 26 minutes in the game.

An interesting statistic from the game is both teams combined had 43 turnovers in the game. Throughout the game, numerous travels were called against both teams causing the turnover count to be so high. Interestingly enough, the amount of turnovers by the Peacocks was right around their season average at 24 turnovers and turning the ball over 25 times against the Minutewomen.

Looking ahead, the Minutewomen look to finish off the non-conference play strong against the Dartmouth Big Green (2-11) on December 28th at 7pm in the Mullins Center. The Minutewomen have been slated to play the Big Green last season but was unfortunately canceled due to COVID-19 cases within the Dartmouth program last season. UMass and Dartmouth are scheduled to play each other for the first time since the 2013-2014 season. The Big Green lead the series 10-9 against the Minutewomen and this upcoming game will be the 20th meeting between the two teams. The Minutewomen are looking to break a two game losing streak they have against the Big Green and go into Atlantic 10 play on a two game win streak.
