FINAL — Loyola 69, SFU 56

How it Happened:

The Ramblers jumped out to a 11-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They enjoyed a great shooting night and caused a season high 20 turnovers against the Red Flash. Coach Guth was able to achieve victory number 101, but it was the first victory within the friendly confines of Gentile Arena. Family time kept me from attending the game, but it couldn’t stop me from cheering them on from the screen of my smartphone on ESPN+. Congratulations to Guth and her staff on another first of many.

Rambler Developments:

Sophia Nolan was incredibly impressive, again. She was 1 point shy of her career high, which she set less than a week ago. Sophia finished with 18 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals. Nolan scored at all three levels, and was impressive underneath the basket. She has now scored at least 12 points in four straight games. This has by far been her most impressive stretch of games in her four seasons as a division one basketball player.

Kira Chivers has continued her key role off the bench as a true freshman, even as other Rambler role players have returned from injury. In Friday’s game, Chivers finished with 7 points, 3 assists, 3 steals, and a whole lot of hustle in her 23 minutes of play. She also had only 1 turnover, which is impressive for her role as the backup point guard.

Maya Chandler finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and extended her perfect start to the season at the free throw line to 20 attempts. She’s also been one of the Ramblers most consistent scorers. She’s scored over 12 points in 5 of the Ramblers 6 games this season. She leads Loyola in points per game at 13.5.

Health Updates:

Julia Hoefling and Jala Johnson returned to the court tonight after missing the Ramblers last 3 contests. Hoefling played 15 minutes and had 4 points. Johnson played 8 minutes and also finished with 4 points.

Destiny Jackson played in her first game of the season. She recorded her first point and rebounds. Whitney Dunn and Maddie Scarborough also recorded their first points of the season.

What’s Next:

The Ramblers take a quick trip to Ohio to take on the RedHawks of Miami  on Monday. They then return to Chicago to take on the UIC Flames on the west side of Chicago on Thursday.
