A look at last night’s A10 action. Four games were on tap. Two needed an extra five minutes to decide.
George Washington 77 UMass 68
That’s three of the last four in the win column for Jamion Christian’s surging Colonials. James Bishop of GW led the way with a game high 24 points. Bishop was zero for five from beyond the arc. The junior guard went 8 of 13 from two point range and 8 of 11 from the charity stripe. Colonials won the rebounding battle 41-29 with Hunter Dean leading the way with 11 boards. UMass has now dropped three of their last five.
Dayton 75 Duquesne 54
Dayton has now won four of their last five with Duquesne in the midst of an eight game losing streak. In a grind it out 54 possession pace, the Flyers posted an outstanding 134 offensive efficiency while holding the visitors to a 96 OE. Eleven Flyers got into the scoring column with Kobe Ellis leading the way with 13 points. Anthony Grant’s club committed only 7 turnovers for an outstanding 13% turnover rate.
Davidson 73 Saint Joseph’s 67 (OT)
The Wildcats improved to 10-1 in A10 play but it was far from easy. Davidson was down as much as 13 the first half and needed an extra five minutes to seal the verdict. Freshman guard Erik Reynolds, one of the best young talents in the conference paced the Hawks with 20 points. Foster Loyer led all scorers with 21 points. Bob McKillop’s club shot just 2 of 23 (9 percent and no misprint) from three point range. Davidson did compensate by committing just 6 turnovers for a superlative 9% rate.
George Mason 87 Richmond 84 (OT)
On Monday Richmond defeated George Mason 62-59 on a last second three pointer by Jacob Gilyard. Last night the Patriots turned the tide with a thrilling overtime win. In a game featuring twelve ties, thirteen lead changes and probably a NCAA record for trips to the monitor, the host Patriots shot 10 of 10 from the line in the extra session to emerge victorious. Grant Golden enjoyed a 23 point, 8 rebound night for Richmond. D’Shawn Schwartz of Mason led all scorers with 26 points-including a few crucial shots in the stretch. Josh Oduro had a double-double (22 points, 14 rebounds) for Kim English’s Patriots.
