PITTSBURGH — The Duquesne Dukes (6-9, 1-2 A10) fell to the Dayton Flyers (11-6, 3-1 A10) 72-52 Saturday at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. DaRon Holmes had 18 points for the Flyers. Kobe Elvis joined him in double digit points with 16. Four Dukes were in double digit points: Tre Williams, Leon Ayers, and Primo Spears each with 12 and Kevin Easley with 10.

The biggest difference-maker was team shooting. Dayton converted 31-of-58 from the field for 53% and 8-for-18 from beyond the arc (44%). Duquesne shot 40% from the field and went 5-for-19 from beyond the arc (26%).

A turnover-prone Dayton team limited themselves to 10 turnovers. Ball control helped the Flyers go on an early 20-5 run after falling behind 7-4 in the first half. They took a 12-point lead into the locker room, came back out for the second half, and extended it to as high as 25 points before settling for the 20-point win.

Duquesne has six days to reset and host St. Bonaventure on Friday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Cooper Fieldhouse.

Dayton will get their crack at hosting the Bonnies a few days earlier on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena.
