Duquesne falls to Weber State, 63-59

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Duquesne Dukes (1-2, 0-0 A10) blew an 11-point lead just after halftime and fell to the Weber State Wildcats (2-0, 0-0 Big Sky) 63-59 Monday at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

Koby McEwen scored 21 points for the Wildcats while Dillon Jones grabbed 13 rebounds to go with his 12 points for a double-double. Jackie Johnson III had 18 points in the second half for the Dukes, and was 4-for-8 from the three-point range, for a total of 27, while Kevin Easley was held scoreless in the second half. Those 27 points were the most off the bench by a Duquesne player since Jordan Stevens in 2014.

Duquesne finished the game 6-for-22 from the three-point range. Tre Williams and Primo Spears combined to go 0-for-6 from beyond the arc and Kevin Easley nailed just one of his three attempts.

Head coach Keith Dambrot talked about how disappointed he was with the close loss.

“We’re consistently inconsistent right now,” Dambrot said after the game. “We made no plays when it mattered. We had four or five guys that didn’t deliver when it mattered. But that’s on me. I have to determine who that go-to guy is.”

Duquesne will be off for the next five days as they prepare for the Paradise jam Tournament in the US Virgin Islands. The Dukes are set to open that tournament against Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021 at 5:45 p.m. They’ll face Colorado or Southern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 20 or Sunday, Nov. 21, depending on whether Friday’s game is a loss or a win, respectively.
