The A10 Second Round: A tempo free look

A quick rundown of second round action in the Atlantic Ten Tournament. All higher seeds except Richmond ‘held serve’. For nine seed Duquesne, the upset of eighth seeded Richmond was the Dukes’ first tournament win over a higher seed since 2009. That year they defeated two higher seeds, Rhode Island and Dayton before dropping a close game to Temple in the championship. 

 

Duquesne 67    Richmond 62

 

Possessions: 74

Offensive efficiency: Duquesne 91, Richmond 84

 

Kenpom MVP:Chad Baker, Duquesne 16 points, 4 rebounds

 

Key stat: Richmond was forced into a 22% TO rate and held to one field goal (a Tyler Burton layup at the buzzer) the final nine minutes.

 

UMass 100    Saint Joseph’s 66

 

Possessions: 74

Offensive efficiency: UMass 135, Saint Joseph’s 89

 

Kenpom MVP: Javohn Garcia, UMass 17 pints, 7 assists and 5 rebounds

 

Key stat: UMass with a low 11% TO rate. Minutemen also shot a scorching 25 of 34 (74%) from two point range.   

 

Dayton 84    Rhode Island 72

 

Possessions: 65

Offensive efficiency: Dayton 129, Rhode Island 111

 

Kenpom MVP: Ibi Watson, Dayton 25 points highlighted by 6 of 11 shooting from three. 

 

Key stat: Dayton shooting 12 of 23 for 52% from three.

 

George Mason 73    George Washington 59

 

Possessions: 68

Offensive efficiency: George Mason 107, GW 87

 

Kenpom MVP: James Bishop, GW with a game-high 29 points and 4 assists.

 

Key stat: George Mason committed only 6 turnovers (9% TO rate). In addition the Patriots won the battle of the boards 42-33.
