Duquesne Men’s basketball game versus VCU Sunday postponed

The Duquesne Dukes’ men’s basketball game Sunday versus VCU has been postponed, the team announced via a press release Friday. A positive COVID-19 test result was within the tier 1 level of the program. Tier 1 consists of “student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and physical therapists, medical staff, equipment staff, and officials,” per the NCAA basketball resocialization FAQ document. Tier 1 is the highest exposure tier. Tier 2 is “certain team staff…that can reasonably maintain physical distance” from tier 1 individuals. Tier 3 includes “media and broadcast workers,” among other operational staff “such as housekeeping, catering, sanitation, and transportation.”

There has been no news on when the game will be rescheduled.

Associate Athletic Director of Media Relations Dave Saba did not offer any additional information regarding how the individual contracted the virus. The Dukes recently defeated Dayton on Tuesday, Feb. 2 to open their new arena, the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. The Flyers are scheduled to host George Mason at 7 p.m. Friday.

Duquesne is no stranger to postponed games. The Dukes had three non-conference games and their first two Atlantic 10 contests canceled in December.

Duquesne is scheduled to travel to face George Mason on Saturday, Feb. 13 and Davidson on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Their next home matchup is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
