Dayton Lands Highest Rated Recruit in Program History

Grant KellyBy Grant KellyOctober 24, 2020No Comments1 Min Read

Coming off the winningest season in the history of Dayton basketball, Anthony Grant has wasted no time capitalizing on the recruiting trail. On Saturday afternoon, the Flyers landed a commitment from DaRon Holmes II, a four-star recruit and consensus top 50 player in the nation. Checking in at No. 39 in 247sports’ class of 2021 composite rankings, Holmes will become the highest rated recruit to ever dawn a Dayton jersey. The Flyers ultimately beat out Marquette to land Holmes after he received offers from Arizona, California, Kansas, and a plethora of other power five schools.

Standing 6’8″, Holmes is a versatile power forward who can handle the ball, block shots, score inside, and even step out and shoot the three. Combine the talent with the relentless mindset he plays with, and it’s easy to see why Holmes was named the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior in high school. Holmes will play his senior season at Montverde Academy in Florida before joining the Flyers. Holmes joins three-star point guard Malachi Smith as Dayton’s second member of its 2021 recruiting class.
