Spiders take down La Salle

Philadelphia, PA –

The Richmond Spiders defeated the La Salle Explorers at Tom Gola Arena 74-47.  The Spiders were led by the play of Grant Golden who scored 16 in the victory.  Blake Francis looked great once again after returning from injury, scoring 14 and went 1-3 from deep.  The Spiders held La Salle scoreless for 7:50 going into the 2nd half, which spelled their long run that was too much for the Explorers to come back from.

Keeping Their Foot On the Throttle

It took the Spiders a little bit to get settled in, but once they did, they didn’t look back.  Tyler Burton had yet another solid showing, and once again showed off his athleticism.  He finished the night with 12 points & 7 rebounds over a span of 18 minutes.  Richmond shot 30-63 from the field & just 4-19 from 3 point land.  Richmond finished the game with 23 points in the paint, which was good to see, even with Francis back in the lineup.  There were some questions on how Richmond would adapt to having Blake back in the lineup.  Would they try to shoot more from deep, or pound the ball inside?  Tonight they proved that they are still able to do both at a high level.  Nick Sherod broke his shooting slump tonight, contributing 7 points and knocked down 1 three.  It would be a huge boost for the Spiders if he can get consistent in the late going of conference play.

Road Ahead

The Spiders will be back in action this Saturday afternoon when they take on VCU at the Robins Center.  For the sake of not only bragging rights, but conference standings, this will be one of Richmond’s biggest games to date.  As always, I will be there live giving you in game updates on Twitter at @AustinDaisey11 & @A10Talk.  We will see you Saturday Spider Nation!
