Richmond vs George Washington – Game Notes

Austin DaiseyBy Austin DaiseyFebruary 26, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

What:  Richmond Spiders (20-7, 10-4) vs George Washington Colonials (12-15, 6-8)

When:  Wednesday, February 26th, 2020; 7:00 (ESPN+)

Where:  Charles E. Smith Center; Washington D.C.

The Spiders will make the short tip up 95 as they take on the George Washington Colonials in Foggy Bottom.  Richmond own the 1st matchup 76-54 behind 20 points from Grant Golden & 15 from Nick Sherod.  This will mark the 93rd all-time meeting between the Spiders and Colonials, with George Washington leading 63-40.  Richmond has won 3 straight, including 9 of the past 11 matchups.

Notes

This is Richmond’s best record since 2010-2011, which is hopefully a good omen, as they made it to the Sweet Sixteen that season.  With a victory, this would be Chris Mooney’s 289th career win & 271st at Richmond.  Their loss to St. Bonaventure on Saturday snapped a 5 game winning streak, as well as a 5 game streak of holding opponents under 60 points.  Richmond will look to get back on track with a strong showing on both sides of the ball.  The Spiders forced 18 turnovers at the Robins Center when these 2 last met, and held George Washington to just 54 points.  This is something that all Richmond fans would like to see tonight, as they defense was shaky in Olean.  Nick Sherod is also a player that would be a huge boost if he can get back to shooting the ball well.  He hasn’t shot well on the road this season, but he is always capable of having a strong performance any time he suits up.

Prediction

This is a huge game for the Spiders, as they are looking to solidify their conference positioning, and are aiming to secure a double-bye in Brooklyn.  I can see this being very similar to their first matchup with the Colonials, and they need to look at Grant early and often.  He feasted on the George Washington defense, and is more than capable of putting up some major numbers once again.  I will say Richmond 77 – George Washington 60.  I did this preview a little bit differently to try to change things up, so let me know your thoughts on it!  We will see you tonight Spider Nation!
