Riding the momentum of recent success, the Dayton Flyers added another addition to their 2020 recruiting class. Zimife Nwokeji, a 6’7″ three-star forward, announced his commitment to the Flyers on Sunday evening. Nwokeji becomes the fourth member of Dayton’s 2020 class, joining Lukas Frazier, Koby Brea, and R.J. Blakney. Let’s take a look at each of the Flyers’ four incoming recruits.
Zimi Kwokeji
As I mentioned, Zimife Nwokeji is a 6’7″ three-star forward. Nwokeji originally committed to Florida State in February of 2018, but decided to attend a prep school after high school instead. He’s from Tallahassee, Florida, but most recently played at Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio. Nwokeji held offers from programs like Ohio State, Virginia Tech, St. John’s, and others, but chose Dayton after attending the Flyers’ home game against Drake last Saturday. He plans to enroll at UD this January in order to get a head start on preparing for next year.
Lukas Frazier
A 6’4″ shooting guard from Lake Catholic high school in Mentor, Ohio, Lukas Frazier was the first player in the 2020 class to commit to Dayton. 247sports currently rates Frazier as a three-star prospect and the No. 10 player in the state of Ohio. Frazier received offers from plenty of other schools, but wasted no time committing to Dayton. The lefty could bring a lot to the Flyers’ offense in the coming years.
Koby Brea
Koby Brea, a 6’5″ guard from the Bronx, New York, became Dayton’s second member of its 2020 class when he announced his commitment back in October. While Brea is only rated as a composite two-star recruit, the Flyers think he has huge upside. A young high school senior, Brea will only be 17 years old when his freshman season begins at UD. That makes him a prime candidate to redshirt next year. It also means that he might not be done growing (remember, Obi Toppin was 6’5″ his senior year of high school). Dayton fully believes it has found a diamond in the rough with Koby Brea.
R.J. Blakney
A three-star and top 300 recruit in the nation, R.J. Blakney will come to Dayton with quite a bit of hype. Standing at 6’6″, Blakney is a sizable guard who can do some of everything. In his senior year of high school, Blakney averaged 16.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Following graduation, he decided to attend a prep school before eventually committing to Dayton. Blakney is a top 10 player out of the state of Maryland according to most recruiting sites.
If there’s one area everyone agrees Anthony Grant excels at, it’s recruiting. Of course, being the head coach of the No. 14 team in the nation helps a lot in that category. While its unclear whether or not Dayton will try to add another new player to next year’s roster, one thing is for certain: Dayton can recruit at a high level. A freshly renovated 13,000+ seat arena, amazing fan base, and recent success on a national scale gives the Flyers a leg up on just about everyone else in the Atlantic 10.
