Richmond vs Radford: Preview

Austin DaiseyBy Austin DaiseyDecember 22, 2019No Comments2 Mins Read

Spiders take on Highlanders in D.C.

What:  Richmond Spiders (10-1) vs Radford Highlanders (3-7)

When:  12/22 – 3:30 PM EST

Where:  Entertainment and Sports Arena; Washington D.C.

How to watch: FloHoops

Richmond shoot for 11-1

The Richmond Spiders will look to extend their winning streak to 6 games as they take on Radford this afternoon. The Spiders are 13-2 all-time against the Highlanders.  In their last meeting, Richmond defeated the Highlanders 64-46 in 2014.  Radford will be led by Carlik Jones, who averages 19.6 ppg in 2019.  The Highlanders are 0-1 against the A-10 this year, where they lost to the undefeated Duquesne Dukes 71-49.

What to Watch for?

This game should go in Richmond’s favor, but how?  Grant Golden is the answer.  Just when it seems that the offense is moving slow or shots just aren’t falling, they always seem to be able to rely on their big man.  Whether it’s from inside or beyond the arc (!), Grant is always there for this team.  The Spiders should be riding high, and they deserve to be.  They are 10-1 for the first time since 1985 and are showing no signs of slowing down.  They’ve proven that even if Blake Francis and/or Jacob Gilyard are cold from the field, they can scrap and find a way to win.  Richmond has been fantastic from deep so far this season (40.4%), but if they can get going down low, this one could easily go in their favor.

Prediction:

Richmond will improve to 11-1 after defeating the Highlanders.  They will be led by their leader, Grant Golden who will once again have a strong game.  If we are lucky, maybe we will see him hit another 3.  My final score prediction is Richmond 82 – Radford 65.  Be sure to follow along on Twitter at @AustinDaisey11 & @A10Talk, as well as online at www.a10talk.com.  See you tomorrow Spider Nation!
