Richmond Falls to Alabama

Austin DaiseyBy Austin DaiseyDecember 29, 2019No Comments2 Mins Read

Spiders drop 2nd straight

The Richmond Spiders were defeated by the Alabama Crimson Tide 90-78 today in Tuscaloosa.  Richmond was led by Jacob Gilyard who scored 21 points, including going 10-11 from the line.  Grant Golden had a solid night as well where he registered 14 points & 11 rebounds in the Richmond loss.  Both Richmond and Alabama had solid production from their benches.  Jake Wojcik led the charge for Richmond as he made a new season high with 17 points, including going 4-4 from 3-pt land.  The Spiders reserves posted 21 points and the Tide scored 35 from their bench.

Spiders Run Falls Just Short

The road shooting woes continued for Richmond, as they went 6-24 from deep. Richmond had a tough time getting good looks against this very athletic Alabama team, and it seemed that they ended up forcing some shots.  Grant Golden had a solid 1st half for the Spiders, but the Crimson Tide did a good job of containing him in the 2nd half.  Alabama tallied 17 offensive rebounds, which tends to tell the tale on how this one went.  Richmond was out rebounded

Road Ahead:

The Spiders end OOC play with a 10-3 record, but have now lost 2 straight games.

Next 5 games for Richmond:

  • vs Saint Joseph’s (1/2)
  • @ Rhode Island (1/5)
  • vs Saint Louis (1/11)
  • @ Davidson (1/14)
  • @ George Mason (1/18)

Needless to say, a tough road ahead for Richmond as they begin conference play.  A big win against Saint Joe’s on Thursday would be a huge step in the right direction for Mooney’s squad.
