Welcome to A10 Talk’s postseason Top 25 player countdown where we’ll be breaking down the best players in the Atlantic 10 this past year, as voted on by our staff. Each day, we’ll release a new article as we unveil our list. Today, we start with #6 Kellan Grady of Davidson.
What he did
Kellan Grady’s sophomore season featured ups and downs as he suffered an injury during a crucial part of non-conference play; that said, Grady was monumental in some of the Wildcats’ key wins, including one at home over VCU, the eventual conference champs. Grady had some big performances prior to an injury that would sideline him for games against Temple, Wake Forest, and North Carolina. Had he been healthy all season, it’s very possible the Wildcats could’ve put together a quality at-large resume. While Grady’s freshman season has arguably been his best yet, sophomore year still featured quality games. Grady went for 25 and 23 points back-to-back in games against Fordham and St. Bonaventure. The sophomore managed to score at least 20 points in 13 contests this season, and that’s without 4 games due to injury. Ultimately, Kellan Grady wound up on the all-conference first team. His ability to take over games and get hot at the right time has been crucial for Davidson, and we’ll see that continue in his junior season.
What he’ll do
Kellan Grady announced he will return for his junior year at Davidson despite putting his name in the NBA Draft process in May. With Jon Axel Gudmundsson also returning, the Wildcats’ backcourt will be incredibly dangerous with another year of experience under its belt. A healthy Kellan Grady will have a chance to shine and improve in his 3rd year at Davidson, and there’s a very good chance the Wildcats end up making the NCAA Tournament in 2019-20. Kellan Grady is a player whose game molds very well to the NBA, and we could end up seeing him drafted in the near future. Grady will need to improve on the impressive freshman campaign that got his name in the 2019 draft lottery conversation last June.
