Welcome to A10Talk’s series of Atlantic 10 Bracketology. Throughout the year we’ll be providing updates on where teams stand in regards to making the NCAA Tournament. Lets take a look at this week’s edition.
On the Bubble
VCU (14-6, 5-2), Davidson (15-5, 6-1), Saint Louis (14-6, 5-2)
Despite falling to Rhode Island earlier last week, VCU bounced back on Saturday with a big road win at Duquesne. With a couple non-conference quality wins under their belt, the Rams must continue handling business in the A-10. It’s easier said than done, but if VCU can avoid the land mines while winning another big game against the likes of Saint Louis or at Dayton, the Rams could be dancing in March.
As for Davidson and Saint Louis, both teams are on the outside of the bubble looking in right now. The Wildcats, however, recently picked up the most impressive A-10 win so far this season, downing Saint Louis on the road last Saturday. That said, Davidson failed to pick up any signature wins in the non-conference. If the Wildcats want to claw their way into the NCAA tournament, they’ll need to continue this impressive 6-1 start throughout the rest of conference play. Saint Louis, on the other hand, really hurt itself by falling to Davidson at home. Nevertheless, the Billikens put together a solid non-conference resume and are off to a fine A-10 start. They must bounce back against Richmond and Rhode Island this week.
Better Luck Next Year
George Mason (13-8, 7-1), Dayton (13-7, 5-2), Duquesne (14-6, 5-2), Rhode Island (11-8, 4-3), Saint Bonaventure (8-12, 4-3), La Salle (4-14, 2-4), George Washington (6-14, 2-5), Saint Joseph’s (9-11, 2-5), UMass (8-12, 1-6), Richmond (7-13, 1-6), Fordham (9-11, 0-7)
Posting the best record in the A-10 up to this point, George Mason has become what everyone thought they could be entering this season. While it’s too late for the Patriots to grab an at-large bid, they certainly look like one of the favorites to win the A-10 tournament. Aside from George Mason, Dayton and even Duquesne have a chance to make a run at the title in Brooklyn. I would not be surprised to see a team like Rhode Island, UMass, or Saint Joseph’s pull-off an upset or two as well.
