Fordham gets commitment from 2018 shooting guard Chris Austin

Grant LabedzBy Grant LabedzOctober 2, 20171 Comment1 Min Read

Fordham received its 2nd commitment from the Class of 2018 on Sunday, as Pasadena, California native Chris Austin decided on the Rams. At 6-4, 180 pounds, Austin becomes the 2nd guard from the Class of 2018 to commit to Fordham along with point guard Nick Honor. According to Max Preps, Austin averaged 17.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest as a junior for his high school team. He’ll help replenish a backcourt that will lose Will Tavares and Perris Hicks to graduation after the 2017-18 season.

Chris Austin, a 6-4 shooting guard from Maranatha High in California, has committed to Fordham, source told ESPN.

2018-19 Rams looking deep, even if Chartouny and Hicks leave after this year (Hicks is a senior but might have eligibility left, and Chartouny is a junior):

    Evans
    Havsa
    Portley
    Ohams
    Slanina

    Honor
    Gazi
    Austin
    Pekarek
    Raut
    Bunting

Could use more big man depth, and after next year Slanina, Pekarek and Bunting will all be gone so hopefully add some bigs if JC and Hicks go.

But Neubauer’s system doesn’t necessarily need a lot of bigs, as they get possessions by trapping and forcing turnovers. His last Eastern Kentucky tournament team’s 5 top scoreres were all 6’5″ and under, with the one main rotation big being 6’8″ Eric Stutz (google him, an interesting character).

I think the program is being built up by the current staff to sustained success, last year’s OOC being a bump in the road, but a better conference season marred by a couple of excruciating late losses.
