The Rams landed their 2nd commitment from the Class of 2018 on Wednesday with Pennsylvania native Tyrese Martin. The 6-4 shooting guard will add depth to Rhode Island’s 2018-19 team, and he’ll help reload after losses of E.C. Matthews, Jared Terrell, and company. Martin also had interest in A-10 schools, La Salle, SJU, St. Bonaventure, and Saint Louis among other D1 programs, but Hurley and the Rams secured him. He joins Dana Tate in URI’s 2018 freshman class, and it’s apparent that Hurley had gained traction on the recruiting trail.

I really like the fact that Martin plays big for his position, yet he’s elusive and quick like a point guard. Rhode Island has been utilizing the size of Matthews and Terrell for the past 3 seasons. What makes those 2 effective is their ability to play like true wings. They can drive through the lane and finish with ease, yet they can also knock down outside jumpers. I look at Martin and see similar attributes. He’s commanding with the ball in his hand. He’s not afraid to get to the rim and slam it down. He plays without fear, and that should be an enormous asset to Rhode Island’s 2018-19 team as it looks to rebuild the coming losses of a loaded backcourt.
