Rashaan Holloway has a chance to be the best big man in the league next year, and no one’s talking about him. The rising junior quietly had a great sophomore season, and with a number of the league’s best big men graduating, he’s going to absolutely feast on the glass and in the paint. You’ll have to watch out for Rashaan Holloway when he comes to your team’s arena, because the junior has a chance to be one of the league’s most improved players next year. Do not sleep on Rashaan.
What He’s Done
Rashaan Holloway was a monster on the glass his sophomore season. His 12.8% offensive rebounding mark ranked 3rd in the league while his 21.6% defensive mark came in at 7th. He was underrated in his ability to clean up the glass, probably because Massachusetts fell off the deep end towards the end of the season. Offensively, he’s becoming a polished player, and with DeJon Jarreau transferring out of the program, it’s likely that Rashaan Holloway sees tons of paint touches next season.
Holloway shot 62.6% from the field last season, making him a deadly threat inside the arc. He’s got great touch for a big man, and he’s only improving as he’s got two years left with the Minutemen. He racks up fouls at 6.4 drawn per game (Top 50 in the nation), and if he could improve his free throw shooting this offseason, he’s gonna be that much more effective next year. His defensive work has been incredible as well. Holloway had the 4th best block percentage in the league play last year, and with Hassan Martin and Mo Alie-Cox graduating, he’ll have a chance to be the best rim protector in the Atlantic 10 next season. Holloway’s ceiling is sky-high.
What He’ll Do
Rashaan Holloway will undoubtedly feast in the paint next season. This league is lacking size all around. Other than Justin Tillman of VCU and Kostas Antetokounmopo of Dayton, there really aren’t that many dominant 5s in the Atlantic 10. Rashaan Holloway is going to get fed the rock plenty, and he’s going to make use of his overwhelming size and ability in the paint. I imagine Holloway escalating from a 10 PPG player to one who averages over 17 per contest. Holloway is an absolute bulldozer in the paint, and there are going to be few players who are able to slow him down next season.
This Massachusetts team is going to go as far as Holloway is willing to take it. I don’t see the Minutemen succeeding much, given the need to rebuild after some key losses, but I do see Rashaan Holloway having himself quite a year. If you’re a Massachusetts fan, start getting excited about next season; if you’re a fan of any other team, start getting nervous for the date you have to face Rashaan Holloway.
