Mike Rhoades got a commitment from Longwood graduate transfer Khris Lane on Saturday. The former Lancer is a Richmond, Virginia native who averaged 17.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game last season. Lane was originally considering VCU, George Washington, and Rhode Island among other schools, but his final decision came down to VCU and Pittsburgh. Lane becomes VCU’s second added transfer this week. Marcus Evans committed to the Rams on Monday but won’t be eligible until the 2018-19 season. Lane will be eligible immediately.

Khris Lane adds depth to this VCU team that was looking somewhat thin down low. Lane’s rebounding ability should add reinforcements to a frontcourt that’s going to be dominated by Justin Tillman next season. While Khris Lane’s numbers were certainly good last year, he played on the 347th best team out of 351 teams according to Kenpom. At the end of the day, Lane is going to have a big transition to make from the Big South to the Atlantic 10. Depending on how Rhoades is able to integrate him, Khris Lane could be a very valuable player.
