Just two days after hearing 4 star point guard Lavar Batts Jr. had requested a release from VCU, Mayan Kiir decided to do the same. The 4 star center from Australia is VCU’s 2nd 2017 commit to change his mind. While Sean Mobley and Marcus Santos-Silva decided to stay put, Batts Jr. and Kiir will be looking elsewhere. The 6-10, 225 lb. center was expected to play serious minutes in his first season for the Rams. Now, VCU’s lack of interior depth could become an issue if Mike Rhoades isn’t able to replace the lost freshmen.
Mayan Kiir will not be apart of VCU’s 2017 recruiting class, per multiple sources. Kiir recently requested a release.

Will Wade’s departure was sure to make a few recruits question whether or not they’d want to come to VCU. Unfortunately for the Rams, their two highest rated recruits backed out. New head coach Mike Rhoades will have three open scholarships to fill this offseason. He’ll likely search for interior players before anything else. I’m sure Rhoades will also look for the program’s next point guard, as Jonathan Williams will be playing his final year of eligibility in the 2017-18 season. The Rams currently have their eyes on 2017 point guard Jamari Wheeler.
