Per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Texas and VCU will begin a home-and-home series beginning in Richmond in 2017 and concluding in Austin in 2018. Shaka Smart left VCU to become the head coach of Texas in 2015, and this will be the first meeting between the two teams since his departure. The Rams are under new coaching management in Mike Rhoades after Will Wade left for LSU. Coincidentally, the Rams could very well play their former head coach Wade next season as well, as both teams will play in the 2017 Maui Invitational. Expect VCU fans to get loud and rowdy for a game against a former head coach that left VCU for a bigger and better opportunity. There may or may not be animosity towards Smart, but the Rams would be ecstatic to get a win against their former head coach when he comes back to the Siegel Center next season.
