E.C. Matthews announced on Friday that he’d be returning to school for his senior season and passing up the opportunity to put his name in the NBA Draft. This is big news for the Rams who return a lethal backcourt in Jared Terrell, Jarvis Garrett, Jeff Dowtin, Stanford Robinson, and now E.C. Matthews. The junior averaged 14.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this past season. He was voted most valuable player of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Rhode Island’s E.C. Matthews will return to school next season, per a source. Will NOT test the NBA Draft waters. Huge Atlantic 10 news.

This is big news for a team that should be the favorite to win the Atlantic 10 next season. Dayton and VCU, without Archie Miller and Will Wade, may take a step back, especially considering the losses of spectacular senior classes this season. It looks like Rhode Island’s league to win in 2018, and E.C. Matthews has a very legitimate shot at becoming the player of the year in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
