Archie Miller to become the next head coach of Indiana

Grant LabedzBy Grant LabedzMarch 25, 20172 Comments2 Mins Read

It was announced on Saturday afternoon that Archie Miller will be heading to Bloomington to become the next head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers. The Hoosiers released Tom Crean after an 18-15 season where he failed to get his team to the NCAA Tournament. Miller is a great hire for Indiana. Archie led Dayton to a 24-8 season including an Atlantic 10 regular season title this year. He’s also taken the Flyers to 4 straight NCAA Tournaments.

Indiana hiring Dayton’s Archie Miller, sources told ESPN.

This is undoubtedly a disappointing development for Flyer fans, but you can’t really blame Archie Miller for making the move to Indiana. The Hoosiers provide a terrific program where Miller has a chance to take the next step in his career: reaching a Final Four. Dayton’s had one heck of a coach in Archie Miller these past 6 seasons, and I’m sure the Flyers will find and up-and-coming coach to fill the void. Miller has made Dayton one of the best mid-major programs in the nation, and even if his departure upsets you, you have to thank him for that.

Like Crean, Miller tended to recruit a fair amount of east coast guys. Will he orient toward a more indiana-centric recruiting approach? Will be interesting to watch.

Surprised Indiana didn’t try to hire Chris Mooney.
