After a four day coaching search, Dayton has found its guy. Anthony Grant, a former standout basketball player at the University of Dayton, was named the program’s new head coach Thursday afternoon. With Archie Miller departing for Indiana after six years with the Flyers, Dayton needed a new, experienced leader. The hiring of Anthony Grant seems to give the Flyers just that.
Working as an assistant for the Florida Gators from 1996 to 2006, Grant started to make a name for himself in the coaching industry. Following the 2006 season, Grant became the head coach at VCU before taking over Alabama in 2009. Grant was an assistant coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season prior to accepting the job at Dayton.
By hiring a former UD star who now has a lot of coaching experience, Dayton hopes to keep its basketball program trending in the right direction. With Grant at the helm, the Flyers certainly have the capability to recruit very well and continue their recent success.
