VCU (17-5, 7-2) defeated Richmond (13-9, 7-3) by a total 81-74 in what could be considered one of the strongest A-10 rivalries. Richmond traveled just 5 miles to the Siegel Center, hoping to pick up a difficult win and solidify a strong conference performance. Despite a great scoring effort from Richmond’s ShawnDre Jones (30 pts), the Spiders weren’t able to stop VCU’s bigs (Justin Tillman, Mo Alie-Cox, Ahmed Hamdy), who combined for 40 points (18, 13, and 9, respectively). VCU now sits at 1st in the Atlantic 10, having recently won games over the Richmond (3nd), Dayton (2rd), and La Salle (6th).
