Weekly Atlantic 10 Power Rankings: Richmond and UMass rising

Each week, A10 Talk’s staff ranks each team in the Atlantic 10 conference (1-14) based on where they believe each team places overall. Each team’s ranking is averaged, and A10 Talk creates a compiled ranking to represent the site. 11 different contributors vote in each week’s rankings. Be sure to check out last week’s power rankings post. Here are this week’s power rankings.

1. Rhode Island Rams (Avg: 1.00)

Rhode Island had a quiet week as it won its only game 82-73 over Belmont. Things will get tougher this week for the Rams when they face Valparaiso on the road on Tuesday and Providence on the road on Saturday.

2. VCU Rams (Avg: 2.40)

VCU went 2-1 and took 5th place in the Battle 4 Atlantis this past week. The Rams lost to Baylor but beat St. John’s and LSU. VCU will play Princeton at home on Tuesday and Illinois in Miami on Saturday.

3. Dayton Flyers (Avg: 2.60)

The Dayton Flyers participated in the Wooden Legacy where they ended up taking 5th place. Dayton lost to Nebraska but beat Portland and New Mexico. Dayton will host Winthrop on Saturday.

4. Davidson Wildcats (Avg: 4.00)

Davidson won the only game it played this week taking down Charlotte 79-57 at home. The Wildcats will play at Mercer on Tuesday and at Charleston on Sunday.

5. Richmond Spiders (Avg: 5.00)

The Spiders took down Hampton on Tuesday and went 1-1 in the Barclays Center Classic. Richmond lost to Maryland in overtime but took down Boston College. This week it faces Bucknell and Wake Forest.

6. Massachusetts Minutemen (Avg: 6.25)

Massachusetts took down Harvard 70-66 in the only game it played this week. Massachusetts will host Wagner on Wednesday and then UCF on Saturday.

7. St. Bonaventure Bonnies (Avg: 6.75)

St. Bonaventure participated in the Lone Star Showcase where it went 2-1 after losing to Little Rock but beating Central Michigan and Pepperdine. The Bonnies host Siena on Wednesday and Buffalo on Saturday.

8. La Salle Explorers (Avg: 8.25)

La Salle took down Drexel on the road 89-78 in the only game it played this week. The Explorers will take on Lehigh on Wednesday and Bucknell Saturday, both at home.

9. Saint Joseph’s Hawks (Avg: 9.25)

The Hawks participated in the Paradise Jam and went 1-2 getting 4th place. The Hawks played Ole Miss this past week and lost 63-73. Saint Joseph’s will play Temple on Wednesday and Villanova on Saturday.

10. Fordham Rams (Avg: 10.00)

The Fordham Rams went 1-1 this past week after taking down Rider on Wednesday and losing to UT-Arlington on Saturday. They’ll play Sacred Heart on Wednesday and at Harvard on Saturday.

11. George Washington Colonials (Avg: 10.50)

The Colonials went 0-3 this past week after losing to Georgia and UAB in the CBE Classic and then dropping a home game to Penn State. George Washington will face Harvard on Tuesday and South Florida on Saturday.

12. George Mason Patriots (Avg: 12.75)

George Mason went 2-1 and took 5th place in the Gulf Coast Showcase, beating Kent State and Bradley but losing to Houston. The Patriots also beat James Madison. They’ll play Northern Iowa and Mercer this week.

13. Duquesne Dukes (Avg: 13.00)

Duquesne went 1-1 this past week losing to UT Martin but then taking down Cleveland State. The Dukes will face off against UMBC on Wednesday and Pittsburgh on Friday.

14. Saint Louis Billikens (Avg: 13.25)

Saint Louis lost both of its games in the MGM Grand Main Event, losing to both Alabama and BYU. The Billikens will play Samford at home on Tuesday and Kansas State at home on Saturday.
