VCU to face Baylor in the first round of the 2016 Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament

Grant LabedzBy Grant LabedzJuly 15, 2016No Comments2 Mins Read

The only thing that beats college basketball is college basketball in a tropical setting. Well, that and turkey. Luckily, you’ll get all three this November when VCU takes the court in the Bahamas for the annual Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. It was announced by CBS Sports on Wednesday that the Rams would be taking on the Baylor Bears in the first round of the tournament on November 23rd. The tournament is played over Thanksgiving and concludes with the championship game on November 25th. VCU will play either Michigan State or St. John’s depending on the outcome of the first round games.

First-Round matchups are set for the 2016 Battle 4 Atlantis, per release. VCU/Baylor, Wichita State/LSU, Louisville/ODU, Michigan State/SJU.

On the other side of the bracket, Louisville will play Old Dominion and Wichita State will play LSU in the first round. The Battle 4 Atlantis field is always a good one, which means nothing but intriguing matchups all week long. Last year’s champions, the Syracuse Orange, would go on to reach the Final Four in March. A lot of the teams in this field will have that kind of talent next season. Baylor will be a tough first round matchup for the Rams as the Bears are led by Al Freeman and Johnathan Motley but do lose Taurean Prince and Rico Gathers. The Rams will be up for the challenge as they’ll boast one of the more formidable frontcourts in all of college basketball.
