Incoming transfer Malcolm Bernard no longer joining Spiders

Grant LabedzBy Grant LabedzJuly 7, 2016No Comments2 Mins Read

ESPN reported on Thursday that Richmond’s incoming transfer Malcolm Bernard would no longer be joining the Spiders for the 2016-17 season. The Florida A&M transfer said he would be attending Richmond back in April but has now decided to look elsewhere for his final year of eligibility. It is unclear exactly why Bernard will no longer be attending Richmond, but it’s possible that there could be some degree of an academic issue (check out this article), or maybe Bernard lost interest. The Richmond Spiders have never brought in a graduate transfer before, but as far as we know, Northeastern transfer Kwesi Abakah will be playing for the Spiders next season.

Obviously this is tough news for the Spiders who miss out on an experienced player that would’ve made a big impact to this program. That being said, they still have a lot of options for next season. Bernard led his team in points, rebounds, and assists last season with 14.4, 7.1, and 4.3 per game respectively. He is now officially back on the market as a hot graduate transfer for next season.
