Last season, Florida State posted a 20-14 record, receiving a 4-seed in the NIT, defeating Davidson 84-74, before falling to eventual runner-up Valparaiso, 81-69. The Seminoles are a team on the rise, with two ESPN100 recruits coming in next season: Dwayne Bacon and Jonathan Isaac. FSU will be the second ACC team on the GW schedule, as the Colonials will face Miami on December 22nd.
Historically, George Washington has seen great success in the BB&T Classic, dating back to the early years, when the format was a two day tournament, before eventually shifting to a triple-header, and in recent years, a double-header. Despite the format changes, the BB&T Classic has regularly attracted big-name programs, such as Michigan State, Florida, Villanova, Notre Dame, and many more. GW has seen some of the most memorable moments in program history at the Verizon Center, such as defeating #11 Michigan State in 2004, or Maurice Creek’s game winner against Maryland in 2013.
