George Washington got some big news the other day when Harvard graduate transfer Patrick Steeves decided he would play his final two years of eligibility with the Colonials in Foggy Bottom. The 6’7″ forward did not see any game action his first three seasons with the Crimson due to multiple injuries, but he had a very successful senior season with Harvard. Steeves averaged 9.1 points per game and shot 44.9% from the field. He’s also deadly from long range as he knocked down 45.8% of his three point attempts in the 2015-16 season. Coming off the bench in most of the games he played, Steeves proved to be a valuable weapon for the Crimson. According to CSN Mid-Atlantic, the senior chose George Washington over California, Richmond, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern. He is eligible immediately.
Patrick Steeves will help replenish a George Washington team that loses a lot of frontcourt talent. Patricio Garino and Kevin Larsen will both be graduating this spring, leaving Tyler Cavanaugh and Patrick Steeves to take on a majority of the duties in the paint. Rising junior Yuta Watanabe has also proven to be a good rebounder for the Colonials and will certainly be called upon frequently next season. Incoming freshman Kevin Marfo will also help fill gaps down low for George Washington. Seeves joins Seton Hall transfer guard Jared Sina as notable newcomers to this roster. With the additions, the 2016 NIT Champions will have a better chance of making the NCAA Tournament in the 2016-17 season.
