Dayton to play in the 2016 Wooden Legacy Thanksgiving Tournament

Grant LabedzBy Grant LabedzMay 25, 2016No Comments2 Mins Read

Dayton will play in the DIRECTV Wooden Legacy this November along with a very talented field. The games will begin on November 24th and conclude with the Championship on November 27th. The tournament takes place at Titan Gym and the Honda Center in Southern California. Along with the Flyers, Cal State Fullerton, Nebraska, New Mexico, Portland, Texas A&M, UCLA, and Virginia Tech will all be participating. This will be a great way for the Flyers to see some competition before heading into A-10 play, and there’s a good chance that Dayton could win this tourney. Last year’s champions were the Michigan State Spartans who took down Kris Dunn and Providence in the final game.

Dayton just got word that Charles Cooke will be returning for his senior year and forgoing the NBA Draft. His return could give the Flyers the edge as the preseason favorites to win the Atlantic 10 Conference. Dayton could be the team to beat in the tourney, but UCLA will boast a very strong roster as well with seniors Bryce Alford and Isaac Hamilton at the helm. Texas A&M had a very good 2015-16 season, but 3 of its top 4 scorers will have all graduated.

Dayton Flyer fans travel well, so I’d expect to see a lot of red in California over Thanksgiving weekend. Dayton got slaughtered by Xavier in the 2015 Advocare Invitational, but it still had a very impressive showing in the tournament in taking down Iowa and Monmouth. This year, the Flyers will be looking to win their pre-season tournament instead of taking second place.
