A10 Talk Top 25 Countdown: #19 Dion Wright

Josh SvetzBy Josh SvetzMay 25, 2016No Comments3 Mins Read

Welcome to A10 Talk’s Top 25 Player Countdown. Each day, we publish a new article counting down the 25 best players in the Atlantic 10 this past season. Today, The Saint Bonaventure Bonnies make their first appearance on the list with forward Dion Wright.

Despite a disappointing omission from the NCAA Tournament, the Bonnies had an excellent year featuring great performances by Marcus Posley and Jaylen Adams. However, the third member of the big three and the criminally underrated Dion Wright should be credited just as much for the Bonnies success last year.

Best Performances:

Wright’s overall consistency may be his best attribute, but he shined in a couple key games this season.

His best statistical game actually came in an 86-90 overtime loss vs the Davidson Wildcats in the A-10 tournament. With 2nd-leading scorer Jaylen Adams held to just three points in the game, Wright stepped up big time scoring 32 points on 51% shooting, grabbing 15 boards and diming four assists.

Another notable performance came in a 84-68 win against the Richmond Spiders. In this contest, Wright produced in every facet on the court scoring 19 points along with 14 rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks.

Key Stats:

Wright became one of the most dependable players in the A-10 night in and night out evidenced by his fourteen double-doubles this season.

Wright also showed himself to be a consistent scoring option, only falling under double figures in scoring once all year.

Finally, Wright showed off a well rounded game as the senior forward finished the year with 16.7 points-per-game, 9.1 rebounds-per-game, 1.2 assists-per-game, 1 steal-per-game, and almost averaged a block a game with 0.7 blocks-per-game.

Team Effort

If you want the incarnation of “team effort”– look no further than Dion Wright.

Considered one of the top hustle players in the conference, Wright stuffed the stat sheet recording figures in four out of five stat categories in twenty games.

Wright also became one of the most ferocious offensive rebounders in the game grabbing 84 offensive rebounds, fifth best in the A-10.

As only one of the two seniors on the Bonnies, Wright came into the season well-respected and became a great leader for the team along with fellow senior Marcus Posley.

A consummate professional on and off the court, Wright embodied everything a coach would want in a basketball player. A fan-favorite, the graduated senior will be missed as the Bonnies prepare for the 2016-2017 college basketball season.
