Atlantic 10 Sunday Preview: Showdown in Olean

Game of the Day

St. Louis Billikens vs St. Bonaventure Bonnies- 2:00 PM (NBCSN)

In the only game on Superbowl Sunday, the St. Louis Billikens travel to Olean to face the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. The Bonnies enter riding a 2 game win streak. On the other end, St. Louis is riding a 2 game losing streak. SLU is 1-4 on the road in conference play, and it won’t get any easier in Olean. The Bonnies will look to continue their run for a NCAA Tournament birth with a win.

There isn’t too much to be happy about if you’re Saint Louis. The Billikens are led by their only senior Ash Yacoubou, who is averaging 12.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. The Billikens only average 66.1 points per game, which ranks 311th in the nation. If the Billikens want a chance, they’ll need to slow down the duo of Marcus Posley and Jaylen Adams.

Spirits are high in Olean as the Bonnies fight towards an NCAA tournament. The Bonnies are one of the more balanced scoring teams in the A10, with 3 players averaging 15+ PPG. One of those players is Jaylen Adams, who is averaging 18.5 points and 5.1 assists per game. Look for him to exploit the Billikens defense early. We expect Mark Schmidt and the Bonnies to take care of business.

The young Billikens will have to contain the Bona offense to even have a chance, but I just don’t see that happening. This should be an easy win for the Bonnies. Expect Posley and Adams to dictate the tempo from tip. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bonnies pull away early.
